Biography![]() Barney Sene President & Chief Executive Officer Barney Sene serves as President & Chief Executive Officer for Aviana Airways Corporation. As a seasoned executive with over 30 years of technical and business experience, Sene leads a new growing company set out to bring the South Pacific Regional airline travel market together by opening up new air routes (domestic and regional) and connecting islands in the South Pacific which otherwise would necessitate extensive travel to reach between two islands, and countries. Prior to founding and leading Aviana Airways, Sene served as President of Samoa Technologies, a telecommunications and media company. Sene was instrumental in growing the company aircraft leasing, Satellite Communications and broadcast media businesses. Prior to Samoa Technologies, Sene served as Corporate Vice President and CTO of Ingram Micro Inc., a Fortune 100 company and the world's largest technology distributor. Sene was instrumental in architecting and driving new IT enterprise initiatives to improve Ingram Micro's competitiveness and drive into new markets. Prior to Ingram Micro, Sene served as Vice President and CTO of WellPoint, one of the largest health benefits companies in the United States and licensee of Blue Cross/Blue Shield Association in various states. As CTO, Sene was part of the management team that transformed and re-engineered WellPoint's processes and systems to enable further growth, reduce operating costs with the interest of aligning various association systems across the company eco-system. Prior to WellPoint, Sene served as CTO of GE Power Systems, a unit of General Electric (GE) with focus on energy generation and manufacturing. While at GE, Sene was instrumental in driving e-Business/e-Commerce initiatives at the business unit in the late 90's to move GE into a paperless and more efficient organization. Prior to GE, Sene held Director leadership roles in IT at DHL Airways, Inc. (DHL Worldwide Express), the US international express air carrier shipping company. As Director of eCommerce, Sene was instrumental in developing and leading a team that developed DHL's web-based products, and IT solutions which accounted for 90% of DHL's revenues. Prior to DHL, Sene served as Development Group Manager at Shared Medical System (now part of Siemens Healthcare) in the mid-80's. Later acquired by Siemens, SMS was a leader in the development of small to medium size Hospital Information Systems, developing product solutions such as Allegra and Spirit. While at SMS, Sene lead the Allegra Development Organization in developing clinical, pharmacy, patient registration and accounting software solutions. As a technical entrepreneur with executive management and business experience, Sene co-founded Inter Island Airways, Inc., a US commuter airline based in the South Pacific serving both Samoa and American Samoa. At Inter Island Airways, Sene was instrumental in driving the FAA license and certification process for the airline, and selecting the type of aircraft currently used by the airline. Sene continues to serve Inter Island Airways as Executive Vice President with focus on growing and expanding the airline within the Samoas and beyond. Sene also co-founded Samoa Technologies, Inc., a telecommunications and media broadcasting company based in American Samoa. Sene was educated in California, earning a B.S. Degree in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from California State University, Long Beach. ![]() |
